I knew from very early on that I wanted to work with children and the special needs population and after observing many different therapy careers I fell in love with Speech-Language Therapy and Audiology. I was drawn to the idea of spending individual time with children and their families developing their child’s ability to communicate, interact and engage with the world around them.

I qualified with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Hearing Therapy from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2009. I then went on to complete my community service year (2010) in Mpumalanga Province at the Ermelo Provincial Hospital where I delivered speech-language and audiology services to in and out patients as well as outreaching to rural clinics in the surrounding areas.

I then entered the private sector in 2011 and joined established practices in the Alberton and West Rand areas and focused on audiological services for adults and children (diagnostic hearing assessments, hearing aid dispensing and management as well as hearing screenings at schools and retirement villages). I also provided speech-language therapy to a large and varied case load of paediatric clients at the practices as well as at various schools in the areas-both mainstream and remedial. This is when I decided to dedicate my attention to speech-language therapy. I attended and continue to attend many courses and training believing that continual professional development is vital in order to keep up to date with the latest techniques and strategies.

I have also worked as a part-time clinical supervisor for the University as the Witwatersrand so that I am able to share my love of this profession with a new generation of Speech-Language Therapists. I realized my dream in 2015 of starting my own private practice in the Brackenhurst area.

I have been passionate about Speech Therapy for as long as I can remember. I strongly believe that humans are characterized by the way in which we share our ideas and dreams. To not be able to communicate our thoughts, can only be lonely and frustrating and there can be no greater gift than to give someone back their voice. It is therefore my mission to give this gift to as many people as I can.

I completed my degree, B.Communication Pathology in Speech-Language Therapy, at the University of Pretoria in 2016. I went on to complete my Community Service year in rural Free State where I was the only Speech Therapist I was solely responsible for adult and pediatric patients as well as all other outreach programs. It was a sharp learning curve but I grew immensely as a therapist and a person in the process.

I began working at Cindy-Lee Pombo Speech Therapy in January 2018. I have started to foster an absolute passion for working with children, especially those with special needs. I continuously build a stronger knowledge and skill set so that I am able to offer the best possible service to all my clients.

My ethos as a therapist can best be described by Gabriela Mistral when she shared this beautiful message: “Many things we need can wait. The child cannot. Now is the time his bones are formed, his mind developed. To him we cannot say tomorrow, his name is today.”
